About the photo: This is the Church of the Holy Spirit in Heidelberg. Here Elector Frederick II ordered the mass to be conducted in German after hearing there the German Language chorale “Es ist das Heil uns kommen her” - “Salvation has come to us”. Frederick III later continued the reforms and is credited with commissioning the Heidelberg Catechism
“If the people in a church do not believe the first question and answer to the Heidelberg Catechism, then everything else they may say or do doesn’t matter”. — Bishop Karl Ludwig of the Hungarian Reformed Calvin Synod
The Heidelberg Catechism Project exists to serve all Christians who look to the venerable confessional document called “The Heidelberg Catechism” as a “subordinate standard” of the faith and profound summary of Good News of Jesus Christ which is infallibly revealed in the Word of God, the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments.
By the grace of God, this website will serve as an online resource for pastors, elders, teachers and other Christians who are studying the catechism for the own edification. It also exists so that they may “teach others” according to 2 Timothy 2:2 and thereby pass the faith to another generation. May the Lord attend your use of these resources for Christ’s glory and your blessing!
